LEDiL’s FLORENCE Lens Helps Modernize Finlandia Hall’s Lighting

Finlandia Hall, designed by renowned architect Alvar Aalto, is a landmark in Helsinki, Finland. While the original light fixtures, also designed by Aalto, were iconic, they required modernization to meet contemporary lighting standards and improve the building’s functionality for modern events. Tunto Lighting took on the challenge of upgrading these fixtures with RGBW technology while preserving their historical aesthetics.

The primary goal was to upgrade the lighting system to RGBW technology, enabling dynamic color changes and enhanced lighting control without compromising the integrity of the original design. Achieving high light intensity and maintaining the quality of white light were critical requirements.

LEDiL Product Used – FLORENCE-Z90

Solution

Tunto Lighting creatively utilized LEDiL’s FLORENCE lens, employing it in an innovative way with RGB and white LEDs.

The RGB LEDs were installed in the designated LED positions under the optical elements of the FLORENCE lens, enhancing color dynamics and visual impact.

Tunto Lighting innovatively placed the white LEDs between the optical elements of the FLORENCE lens module. By placing the LEDs in this innovative pattern, the light distribution mimicked the effect of the original luminaire.

The modernization enabled dynamic color changes and improved lighting control, increasing Finlandia Hall’s versatility for different events. The innovative use of the FLORENCE lens ensured the new system preserved the visual and historical integrity of Alvar Aalto’s original design. The new LED lighting system is also more energy-efficient and durable than the original incandescent lamps, supporting Finlandia Hall’s sustainability objectives.
